This Maori Patu is slightly larger than the average size Patu, measuring approximately 41cm (16 1/8') in length.

It is carved in Rotorua and made from Tulip Wood, a sustainably harvested lightweight but very strong hardwood with a reddish brown hue.

Patu are a pre-European Maori artefact, usually flat with a rounded blade with a sharpened edge.

They were either held in the hand, attached to a cord for the hand to go through, or tucked into a woven belt.
